Russell Brand was arrested for attacking a paparazzi photographer at Los Angeles International airport yesterday (17.09.10).
The British comedian was handed the misdemeanour charge of 'Simple Battery' following the incident, where he is alleged to have pushed a photographer taking pictures of him and fiancee, pop star Katy Perry.
The photographer who was involved in the physical altercation made a citizen's arrest on Russell, 35, before police intervened and took him into custody for questioning. He was later released on $20,000 bail, and a court date has been set for October 15.
Katy, 24, tweeted about the incident, writing: "If you cross the line and try an put a lens up my dress, my fiance will do his job and protect me."
The couple had met to celebrate their one-year anniversary together, and were at the airport to catch a flight to Las Vegas, which they subsequently missed due to the altercation.
It is thought the incident started after photographers were blocking Katy and Russell's path and stopping them from getting on their flight.
A police report of the incident stated: "Los Angeles Airport Police responded to Terminal 5 to a report of a battery involving a celebrity and a commercial photographer.
"Airport police took the suspect into custody for Penal Code Section 242 - battery."
