NEW YORK — What happens when you gather together the fun, fearless men of Cosmo magazine in one place? Well, it seems that a giant party erupts. That's what happened on Monday night at Cosmopolitan magazine's 2011 Fun Fearless Males party in New York City at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, where hotties like Ian Somerhalder, Russell Brand and Mila Kunis all showed up to pay tribute to the men who make us swoon.
Being that the night's honorees were being lauded for being both playful and bold, MTV News decided to have them weigh in on the not-so-age-old question: Are you more fun or more fearless?
"I think I'm a healthy balance of both," "Gossip Girl" star Penn Badgley explained. "Yoga [makes me balanced]. I don't do yoga," he jokingly continued before adding, "Fearless can be a bit serious, so you have to balance it with some fun."
"Thor" himself, Chris Hemsworth, assessed himself like so: "Probably more foolish. It's a fine line, isn't it? Depends on whose observing and making that assessment. I think it's a gray area. I'd like to think a bit of both. For me, it's about having the courage to live in the moment."
So, was the Aussie actor's brother, fellow hottie Liam Hemsworth, upset at all that he didn't get honored, as well? "No, he's the fun, fearless one at home so he takes that title and holds it quite high," Chris teased.
"Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder had a very Damon-like answer to the whole conundrum of the night. "Can't you be fun while you're being fearless? I try. I'm trying," he maintained. "It's kind of interesting. Sometimes being fearless is fun and sometimes being fearless ends up being stupid, but if you can calculate it right ... I keep hearing this word fearless — the fearless people are the ones that make change, good change."
The night's only lady, Mila Kunis, admitted that she kind of looks for all those qualities in her male. "I want both! Sure! Who doesn't? I look for it in my friends. Why not?" she said. "I'd like to think I'm fun and fearless, but I think I have my days where I'm probably really scared and not so much fun. But I'd like to think I take risks and take chances and enjoy my life."
So, what does male-of-the-year Russell Brand think of his standing in the world of fun and fearlessness? "I'd like to think of myself as a conglomerate of both things — furless," he joked. And what does wife Katy Perry think of that? "There's no telling what she'll say, is there?" he added. "She can make any kind of judgment."
So do you consider yourself more fun or more fearless? Tell us in the comments?
