Russell Brand takes mum as Oscars date

The comedian walked the red carpet with his mother, introducing her to TV interviewers and fans.

“This is my mum, Babs,” he proudly declared, while his mother beamed from ear to ear.

Asked what she thought of her son, Barbara (pictured) grinned: “I’m incredibly biased – he’s beautiful.”

Brand was presenting the Oscar for best foreign film, alongside Arthur co-star Helen Mirren, at the 2011 Academy Awards.

But he seemed a little concerned with the category he had been given.

“I don’t speak foreign,” he said.

Brand revealed Mirren had helped him write his script for his Oscars debut and told him to express himself “creatively”.

And he joked that their friendship could only go so far.

“We can only take that certain limit because of Taylor [Hackford] and Katy,” he said.

Asked how he copes while his pop star wife is away on tour, he said with a grin: “Every so often I just look at a photograph of her and smile. That’s enough.”
