Russ, 36, and Katy, 27, both recently had tattoos inked backstage at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles following Katy's lastest performance on her California Dreams Tour.
Speaking on US chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, Russell said: 'It was her idea. It's always her idea, she's always scribbling permanent things on my body for a laugh and I'm always allowing it to happen!'
Brand, who got a tattoo of the West Ham United team logo on a peppermint swirl background on his upper arm, said: 'Look at this thing. I at least had the common sense to do the football team I support in England, and in the background there is a candy cane swirl that defines her aesthetic ideology.
'I thought the only way I can make this thing not be the act of a sissy is carve a football hooligan thing into my flesh so that's what I've done.'
As for what inking The One That Got Away singer had opted for, he added: 'Some peppermint thing. Nothing to do with me! It's to do with her!'
