Ryan Adams liked taking heroin and cocaine together because it was "interesting".
The American singer has been open about his use of illegal substances. He's previously said it was a "miracle" he didn't die of drug use, particularly as he used to favour speedballs – heroin mixed with cocaine.
The star is now clean and insists that period in his life isn't something he considers anymore.
"I liked speedballs though. They were interesting!" he told Q magazine. "But I got everything out of drugs that I could. I was careful. I never took intravenous drugs because I was afraid of catching some disease. And when I quit smoking and quit doing hard drugs I just stopped. It was not a big deal. Now I don't ever think about it."
Although the 36-year-old has turned his life around now, he doesn't regret any of his past actions. The star maintains he had many fun nights while he was on drugs and has tried to explain why he enjoyed them so much.
"I had great, great times taking drugs. Some amazing moments. They were really resourceful for me making music at various stages in my life. But I never did drugs at my house, by myself, on a sunny day sitting in a basement," he said. "My experience was being in a studio for a week, there's all these tracks to cut and I'm feeling inspired. You've had a couple of drinks, a couple of lines and you're amped up. You feel great, pop a bottle of wine and four hours later you're written a cool f**king song. Maybe? And if your bandmates are on the same wavelength it creates this communal feeling where you're in a speeding car together and the night feels like it could last forever."
