The Canadian actor made the shocking admission in the latest issue of Interview magazine.
Gosling, who was interviewed for the magazine by funnyman Steve Carell, said the incident – which happened when he was eight years old – convinced him to move to the warmer climes of California.
The 29-year-old told Carell: 'I loved growing up in Canada. It's a great place to grow up… although, when I was eight, I was walking to school one day and I saw a frozen cat by the side of the road, and I picked it up and hit it against a tree.'
The Notebook star admitted that he did it to make sure the cat was frozen.
He said: 'Yeah. It was frozen solid, almost mid-step. So I thought, 'This isn't right. I'm moving to California as soon as I can drive’. And that’s what I did.'
Gosling also revealed that as an eight-year-old he used to sing at weddings with his older sister, who was 12 at the time.
He said: 'We would sing When A Man Loves A Woman to the bride.
'We'd do it right before the garter ceremony. While the bride was sitting on the chair, I would get down on my knees and sing the song and then my sister would sing another song, and then together we would sing Old Time Rock And Roll.”
He added: 'Then sometimes, if we were really killing it, I'd sing Runaround Sue.'
