The 30-year old star underwent a stint as a cashier in a sandwich shop after filming ‘The Notebook’ in 2004 and believes other actors should follow his example as it will reduce the chances of them developing problems coping with fame.
He said: “I’d never had a real job.”
He goes on to say no one works in Hollywood, adding to the January edition of America’s GQ magazine: “They have meals. They go to Pilates. But it’s not enough. So they do drugs. If everybody had a pile of rocks in their backyard and spent every day moving them from one side of the yard to the other, it would be a much happier place.”
Ryan is clearly not afraid to shun his showbiz life for more mundane tasks.
The actor and his ’Blue Valentine’ co-star Michelle Williams agreed to live out the life of their married characters, ensuring everything they did was on the typical budget of a nurse and painter, and the actress was delighted by the hunky star’s willingness to help with domestic tasks.
She told Hollywood Life.com: “We did everything; we lived together during the day. He always helped out with the dishes. It was nice!”
