February 27, 2007. San Francisco. The legendary San Francisco BOOTIE party has paired with Andy Asylum (aka famed UK bootleg DJ Andy Churchill), a virtual resident of Pontiac's Motorati Island (www.motoratilife.com) in the online world of Second Life, to create a real-time, interactive clubbing experience dedicated to the art of the musical mash-up. The party takes place once a month at the Parkade nightclub, a virtual venue built on the island, which serves as a cultural stomping ground for auto junkies on Second Life. Asylum, founder of the Parkade, will host the next Second Life BOOTIE party on March 10th, 2007 at 9pm PST until 3am PST. The party will provide a live music link-up to the actual BOOTIE night at DNA Lounge in San Francisco.
Over the past few years, the mash-up phenomenon has spread virally across the globe. Known in the U.K., as "bootlegs" or "bastard pop" and more commonly as "mashups" in the U.S., this new genre of music is much of what it sounds like: two seemingly disparate songs "mashed-up" into one singular creation. In 2003, San Francisco DJs Adrian & the Mysterious D - aka A plus D - were the first to devote an entire night to bootlegging, making BOOTIE the first club in the U.S. dedicated to this musical genre, drawing over 1000 club goers each month, and launching sister parties in both Los Angeles and New York City. In an innovative effort to invite everyone to the party, BOOTIE turned to Second Life to provide the bootleg experience for anyone who wants to log in.
Besides streaming live parties, Pontiac's Motorati Island, a 96 acre piece of virtual land launched by the car company in Second Life, boasts the capacity for the online community to engage in interactive games, events, car races, as well as involvement in a constantly evolving universe dedicated to people with an interest in car culture.document.write(unescape("
