Scotty McCreery Has His Day With #1 Billboard Debut

Scotty McCreery might have the right stuff to break the recent "American Idol" chart jinx. After last season's winner, Lee DeWyze, just barely cracked the top 20 with his debut last year (and was recently dropped by his label), teenage country crooner McCreery's debut, Clear As Day, will hit #1 on the Billboard albums chart next week on sales of 197,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

Following on the heels of the disappointing DeWyze debut and the #11 bow by season eight winner Kris Allen, McCreery's sales are the biggest for an "Idol" winner since David Cook moved 280,000 copies of his self-titled debut in 2008. And believe it or not, it was the first #1 debut by an "Idol" winner since season two's Ruben Studdard.

Further down the line, Canadian songbird Feist debuts at #7 with the feathery Metals, country singer Rodney Atkins is just behind at #8 with Take a Back Road (35,000) and Jack's Mannequin slips into the top 10 at #9 with People and Things (31,000).

Adele's major run with 21 continues, as the British soul singer moves up a notch to #2 on sales of 112,000 and she zeroes in on the 4 million mark, while Tony Bennett's Duets II moves up one to #3 (71,000) and Lady Antebellum's Own the Night clicks up two to #4 (58,000). It's a steep drop, though, for Jay-Z protégé J. Cole, whose Cole World: The Sideline Story falls four spots to #5 as sales trail off by 75 percent in week two to 54,000.

The rest of the top 10 includes Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV (#6, 53,000) and Blink-182's Neighborhoods (#10, 31,000). While Blink suffers an 80 percent drop for their comeback album in week two, the fall was a bit softer for Wilco, whose Whole Love drops six slots to #11 as sales trail off by 66 percent to 28,000. McCreery made it a clean sweep, taking the top spot on the iTunes albums chart as well, pulling ahead of Adele, J. Cole, Feist, Mayday Parade's self-titled album, Jack's Mannequin, Blink, Foster the People's Torches, Lady Antebellum and Lil Wayne. Adele continued to keep a lock on the iTunes singles chart with "Someone Like You," beating out LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It," Foster's "Pumped up Kicks," Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" and Rihanna's "We Found Love." Gym Class Heroes hit #6 with "Stereo Hearts," followed by David Guetta's "Without You," B.o.B's "Strange Clouds," LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" and Lady Gaga's "You and I."

The top should get a shuffle again next week with the release of Evanescence's self-titled comeback, the major label debut from "Idol" season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina, and new albums by Martina McBride and Joe Jonas.
