Top comedian Peter Kay stunned the Tartan Clef Music Awards tonight by driving from England to support best friend Sharleen Spiteri.
Funny man Kay appeared as a surprise presenter to give Spiteri her Reo Stakis Outstanding Contribution Award. "I couldn't believe it when he walked on stage! I didn't even know I'd won the award. I was just here to play a song. He's such a great guy!"
Peter Kay watched on as Sharleen performed for the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland supporters. "She's such a lovely, lovely lady, we always have the madest time when we're together! When we hang out we like to have old school monster mash up battles on our ipods!"
The glittering, rock 'n' roll music awards ceremony, hosted by Jay Crawford of Real Radio and headline sponsored this year by the SECC, was held at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow tonight (Saturday 22nd November) raising a phenomenal £93,000 this year for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland.
This prestigious annual ceremony saw fantastic live performances from artists including The Fratellis, Sharleen Spiteri, Dougie MacLean, Eddi Reader, The Almighty and Hue & Cry. It was a momentus night which also saw the original line-up of Orange Juice together again for the first time in over twenty years! (since 1982)
Mary Brown, Executive Director Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland said:
"Funds raised from the Tartan Clef Music Awards are crucial as they help to secure the continuation of music therapy sessions for the many children and adults accessing the services."
