Simple Minds have announced an open-air gig at Alive at Delapre this year and are set to perform in the beautiful historic grounds of Delapre Abbey on Friday 18 July.
The Scottish rock band formed in 1977 and achieved commercial success in the early 1980s with a string of hit singles, including their well-known 1985 hit, Don't You (Forget About Me), Alive and Kicking and Waterfront.
Comprising of the members Jim Kerr, Charlie Burchill, Mel Gaynor, Andy Gillespie and Ged Grimes, Simple Minds have toured all over the world, headlining in major stadiums and inspiring many other top acts, including The Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream and The Horrors.
Simple Minds' performance at Alive at Delapre in Northampton will coincide with the release of their latest album, 'Celebrate – The Greatest Hits', which marks their 35 years as one of Britain's most successful bands.
Councillor David Mackintosh, Leader of Northampton Borough Council, said: "We are delighted that Simple Minds will kick off this popular three day event in the beautiful surroundings of Delapre.
"Simple Minds dominated the charts in the 80s with many hit classics that fans old and new will be able to enjoy on Friday 18 July. We hope that Delapre's beautiful parkland surroundings will act as a perfect venue to celebrate 35 years of the band's success.
Tickets for the event will cost £39.25 (includes booking fee) and will go on sale on Friday 21 February at 10am.
