After too long a wait, "Night Time, My Time", the long-awaited debut LP from Sky Ferreira is finally out in the UK, and winning admirers with its bold, brash mixture of incandescent pop and defiantly off-kilter influences.
Now, having just completed a US tour with Miley Cyrus and with performances at summer festivals such as Primavera and Field Day waiting in the wings, Sky Ferreira is releasing one of the statement tracks from her album, "I Blame Myself", as a single.
Pairing complex, contradictory sentiments with one of the simplest, most addictive melodies on the album, "I Blame Myself" finds Ferreira confronting her detractors head on, declaring her force and independence as a person even as she unashamedly shows her vulnerability as she sings "How could you know what it feels like to fight the hounds of hell? / You think you know me so well".
With its soaring chorus and driving beats it has all the potential to be one of the breakthrough hits of the summer, but, as with anything Sky Ferreira does, it has a twist all its own.
"Night Time, My Time" is out now on Polydor.
