The New York Post has reported that Sly Stone is now homeless and living in his van in the rough Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles.
According to the article, he is happy with the arrangement. "I like my small camper. I just do not want to return to a fixed home. I cannot stand being in one place. I must keep moving."
That moving, though, is evidently not too far as an elderly couple near where he parks makes sure that he gets at least one meal per day and let's him shower. Their son acts as his assistant and driver.
Now 68, Stone has had a myriad of problems over his life from drug addiction to other excesses but the final straw may have been with his manager, Jerry Goldstein, who Stone says has stopped sending him royalty checks. Sly is currently suing him for $50 million over a 1989 deal that gave Goldstein near complete control of Stone's money.
Still, Stone is looking toward the future. Although tending towards the paranoid (he claims the FBI is after him), he continues to make new music using his laptop.
