Smoke Fairies Jess Davies & Kaf Blamire bumped into Jack White in the middle of a packed Hoxton bar. Having convinced the DJ to play their 7" single they grabbed Jack and passed him a whisky and a CD. The rest is history as soon after he invited them to support The Dead Weather at their debut London show at the Kentish Town Forum, where he personally introduced the band on stage.
White was already impressed with the Smoke Fairies' unique sound and now with their enigmatic live show and offered to record a single for his label Third Man Records, which he would produce and perform on himself. The product of this dream-come-true adventure and visit to Nashville is 'Gastown' and 'River Song' - being released as a limited edition 7" and download on December 7th 2009.
Having completed the recording they barely had enough time to do the laundry before embarking on another tour, this time on a much larger scale as special guests to Richard Hawley. Katherine and Jessica took a four-piece band and the ornate venues provided an ideal backdrop for the dark blues/folk of the Smoke Fairies; the rich, close knit harmonies swirling around these expansive spaces and fully captivating the audiences. They returned to London for a sold out headline show at The Borderline in support of the year's second 7" single release 'Sunshine'.
