Snow Patrol was forced to put three shows on ice after front man Gary Lightbody was diagnosed with laryngitis.
Under orders for Lightbody to give his voice a rest, Snow Patrol pulled out of a show in Atlanta Monday night and call off shows in Washington D.C. and Boston tonight and Friday (June 2), respectively. The band's tour to support its latest, Eyes Open (2006, Interscope) (read Aversion's review), kicked off last week in Denver (read Aversion's review). The act hopes to tack the make-up dates onto the end of its tour, but has yet to reveal firm plans to return to the scrubbed shows.
Laryngitis has been a problem for Lightbody since the winter, when a doctor diagnosed him with the condition and recommended he take a week off. Because of the band's tour schedule, Lightbody wasn't able to heed the prescription.
“Some of you may come to the conclusion that this is because we're a party band and we're out every night getting messed up,†Lightbody said in a statement on the band's website. “Yes we like a drink. I however have taken it reasonably easy since February in that department and I haven't been drinking on this U.S. tour at all and I've every intention of not partying for the duration of it. In fact I've been in the gym every morning and eating right.
“In short, I'm taking it very seriously,†he continued. “The simple fact is that my voice is worn out.â€document.write(unescape("
