Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor gave birth to her first child Friday, a boy delivered eight weeks early, her spokesman said.
Ellis-Bextor, 25, underwent a Caesarean section after doctors diagnosed the potentially life-threatening condition pre-eclampsia, a sudden increase in blood pressure in late pregnancy, a spokesman for the star said.
The singer and her baby, Sonny, were "doing well," but the infant must remain in the hospital for the next few weeks, the spokesman said.
Ellis-Bextor became a household name in Britain in 2000 when the club hit featuring her vocals, Spiller's "Groovejet," reached No. 1. Her disco songs include "Take Me Home" and "Murder on the Dancefloor."
She and her partner, Richard Jones, were said to be "absolutely delighted" with their new arrival.
The couple met when Jones played guitar in Ellis-Bextor's band on a tour of Britain and Europe in 2002.
