Swim Deep mark their long awaited and welcome return with a brand new single 'To My Brother' through Chess Club / RCA.
The band emerge from a self imposed hiatus, having deliberately stepped back from the public gaze for the past eight or nine months, only interrupted by the occasional show and now, they're back!
Premiered on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show, the single 'To My Brother' is available now via iTunes.
Swollen in ranks with the addition of live multi-instrumentalist and long term like minded associate James Balmont, Swim Deep pen a new chapter, of which 'To My Brother' is the prologue and only a tantalising taste of what's to come over the coming months.
A marked departure from previous works, 'To My Brother' cascades into earshot, vocalist Austin Williams entering the fray on a wave of lush, expansive pop - the band have found their own space and four minutes of glorious shimmering and undeniably hook-laden pop basks in the influence of much but results in a panoramic drenched vision of the post noughties.
As Williams says himself; "There's been inspiration from the sound and ethics of the acid house movement of the late eighties. It feels like there are a lot of parallels with what we have today, that sort of determination to dance whilst everything falls apart around you. We're not being revivalists though, for us every summer could be the summer of love. This track comes from pure obsession with Motown hits, a 303 machine we dusted off in the studio and a heroic breakbeat whilst lyrically it's reflecting a war with my own words, a sort of frustrated parody. Preaching to myself."
Recorded at London's The Church studios under the guidance of Dreamtrak and mixed by David Wrench (Caribou, FKA Twigs, Kate Tempest), 'To My Brother' will be available on 7" (b/w 'Hotel California) and digitally through all discerning outlets.
Meanwhile, having already confirmed an appearance at Live In Leeds in May, Swim Deep play a short run of dates as follows:
31.03.15 Manchester Deaf Institute
01.04.15 London Electrowerkz
