Summer Sundae Weekender is delighted to announce the final artist addition to this year's tenth event and the act putting the proverbial cherry, hundreds & thousands, nuts and a flake on top of the (Summer) Sundae are Teenage Fanclub.
A band who are unparalleled among their generation for both their unwavering adherence to and brilliant reinvention of the guitar pop approach of vintage acts like Big Star and Badfinger. Blessed with the talents of three formidable singers and songwriters (Norman Blake, Gerard Love, and Raymond McGinley, respectively) all share an unerring knack for crafting immediately infectious melodies. Teenage Fanclub's music possesses a timelessness and accessibility matched by precious few. For 21 years they have been at the forefront of the power-pop revolution with legendary albums such as 'Bandwagonesque', 'Grand Prix' and 'Songs From a Northern Britain' under their belt, Summer Sundae is delighted to have the 'Fannys' lining up as the penultimate act to Seasick Steve on Friday night Main stage.
Moreover, completing the Drowned in Sound stage's bill, which this year has been moved indoors to De Montfort Hall, is the bewitching songstress Catherine A.D; a remarkable talent whose piano lead tracks evoke a gothic and ethereal cadence. Championed by the likes of Steve Lamacq and Lauren Laverne and having just finished recording 'Skeleton EP', Catherine A.D. is not to be missed.
But that's not all; kicking off on August 13th in the luscious environs of De Montfort Hall, attendees can expect a white hot mix of brilliant new acts (Local Natives, Frankie and The Heartstrings, The Low Anthem, Stornoway, Slow Club), the finest selection of Folk and Rhythm & Blues (Mumford and Sons, Seasick Steve, Fanfarlo) popstastic number one selling artists (Tinchy Stryder, Diana Vickers), outstanding DJs and MCs from hip hop (Roots Manuva) & UK Grime scenes (Skepta, Devlin), blissed-out electronica (Junip, Caribou), stone-wall legends in their own right (The Fall, Teenage Fanclub) a host of great bands (The Futureheads, Los Campesinos!, The Invisible) and many, many more make up this year's line up.
Music is only part of the Summer Sundae Weekender experience however. As a celebration of turning 10 this year parts of the surrounding locale will be transformed into a traditional seaside complete with its very own beach, as Summer Sundae number 10 goes 'Beside The Seaside'.
