A weird piece of irony for all fans of the Fab Four: A memorial tree planted in the honour of the late Beatle, George Harrison has been destroyed by none other than an actyal beetle infestation.
Reported in the Los Angeles Times, the 10ft pine tree came under attack from hundreds of beetles and, rather unfortunately, just couldn't be saved - it was pronounced dead at the scene.
It's not all bad news however, as Councilman Tom LaBonge has announced that the now deceased tree, planted in 2004, will be replaced with new one.
The 'George Harrison Tree' at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery came with accompanying plaque, which reads: "In memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician and a gardener" - oit was also recovered from the wreckage and will be reinstated when the new tree is planted.
Harrison, who spent his last year's living in L.A. died in 2001 and was cremated at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The memorial tree was planted nearby at the city's Griffith Observatory.
