The Charlatans are the latest amazing act lined up to play this year's massive Rock Ness gig in the Scottish Highlands. In a move certain to create huge excitement with their fanbase, festival organisers have confirmed the band will be the penultimate act to rock the outdoor 'Xfm Stage', before the Chemical Brothers headline slot, on Saturday 9th June.
The Charlatans are one of the UK's most enduring acts racking up a string of hits through the late 90's. Nine albums and over thirty singles later the band are more relevant than ever, having carved out a distinct idiosyncratic musical style based around gutsy psychedelic-tinged melodies. Collaborations with acts like The Chemical Brothers - Tim Burgess provided guest vocals on the "Life Is Sweet" track from The Chemical Brothers' seminal Exit Planet Dust album – have helped to ensure The Charlatans maintain their position as one of the country's finest rock/dance crossover acts.
The band are currently working on their tenth studio album which the charismatic Burgess recently revealed as sounding 'unique and maybe not what will be expected from us".
The new as-yet-unnamed album will follow what has been a busy twelve months for the band, which has included a support slot to The Rolling Stones and a compilation release at the end of 2006 featuring many of their anthems including One To Another, The Only One I Know, North Country Boy, Just When You're Thinking Things Over and Black & Blue Eyes. Tim Burgess also continues to tour Europe as a guest DJ with his friend Alan McGee as part of the acclaimed Death Disco club nights.
The Charlatans at Rock Ness is a Scottish festival exclusive and will see the band joining a stellar line-up which features some of the hottest names in dance, electronic and rock, including The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Groove Armada, The Manic Street Preachers, The Automatic, and The Feeling.
The festival which is being staged on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of June, will take place once again on the banks of historic Loch Ness, outside the village of Dores, four miles south-west of Inverness. Organisers expect 35,000 music fans to attend each day with a dedicated campsite for 25,000.
Rock Ness will be broadcast live and exclusive across radio partner Xfm's UK network to an audience of 1.6 million listeners.
