The Charlatans new album details

The Charlatans have revealed more details about their upcoming new studio album.

The band entered Hook End Manor Studios in Oxfordshire with producer Jim Lowe last month (July 18) to begin work on the LP â€" expected to be called 'Simpatico'.

Speaking about the sound of the record in the band's online studio diary at thecharlatans.net, drummer Jon Brookes said: “The sound or vibe of the record is very true to the band, in as much as this time we've recorded the whole group together live. This in my opinion has made the band sound harmonious and it's very strange that after so many records, to have chosen this, the oldest of techniques.”

He added: “With the twelve tunes that have been recorded the album has taken a kind of "dubby" twist, but this is all the information I can give at present, as I will surely be shot for giving the game away.”

Tracks set to be included on the record include 'For Your Entertainment', 'N.Y.C. (There's No Need To Stop'), 'The City Of The Dead' and 'For All Others'.

Talking about when fans will get the chance to hear new material from The Charlatans, singer Tim Burgess said that they will be debuting tracks at The Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals (August 26-28) and their headlining show at Glasgow Academy on August 29.

He said: “We'll be playing three new songs at Reading, three different ones in Leeds, and one at Glasgow.”

The band are also aiming at releasing a download of a new track at the end of the year to give a taste of the new album â€" expected at the beginning of 2006.

Sessions for 'Simpatico' have also seen former Libertine Carl Barat drop into the studio with the band for an impromptu reunion of ‘supergroup' The Chavs.

Guitarist Mark Collins revealed: “We got The Chavs together for one night only to a select audience of 4 people. We had 3 hours to write a song and then we performed it incredibly badly for the 4 people. They've asked me to come down and wreck another bunch of songs at Christmas time.”

The Chavs originally took to the stage at Chatham's Tap And Tin last Christmas, with Burgess and Barat joining Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows and Primal Scream's Martin Duffy.
