The Charlatans play new material

The Charlatans have previewed new material during their main stage set at the Carling Weekend Reading Festival on Saturday.

The band who have just finished working on a new album, played 'NYC Never Stops' alongside a selection of favourites from their career.

”I like to think of it as me rapping, though I'm no really, it's not Eminem,” singer Tim Burgess told NME.COM shortly after coming off stage. “I think we really nailed it today, though it's better on the album.”

Burgess also stressed that the currently untitled new album is coming out next year, there had been some confusion after a light aircraft trailing a banner saying a “new LP out Oct 10” circled the festival site during the Charlatans' set.

”That was nothing to do with us,” explained Burgess. “A mate of ours runs a record label and he was trying to upstage for a laugh. I refused to look up, so he didn't put me off. I want our album to come out next March, so that's when it's going to come out.”
