The Civil Wars have split up permanently, deciding to end their musical partnership after nearly five years together.
Announcing the split on their official Facebook page, the duso made up of Joy Williams and John Paul white said they were “saddened and disappointed” by the ituation.
The four time Grammy award winning duo had been on indefinite hiatus since 2013, after releasing their critically acclaimed self titled second album.
Revealing they would be giving away their rendition of ‘You Are My Sunshine’ as a parting gift to fans, the respective members then provided their own explanation for the disbanding.
Joy Williams commented: “I am saddened and disappointed by the ending of this duo, to say the very least. JP is a tremendous musician, and I will always be grateful for the music we were able to create together."
John Paul White added, “I would like to express sincere thanks to all who were a part of the arc of The Civil Wars—from the beginning, to the end, and all points in between. My deep appreciation goes out to all who supported, disseminated, and enjoyed the music. Whatever shape or form the next chapter takes, thanks for being a large part of this one.”
