The Cure's new studio album, their thirteenth, is 4:13 Dream. "There are songs about relationships, the material world, politics and religion. They're very upfront and dynamic," says Smith of the new songs. "People will be surprised how stripped-down and in-your-face the record is."
Led as always by lead singer/guitarist Robert Smith, the Cure line-up comprises long-time members bass player Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper and, back in the band for a third time, guitarist Porl Thompson.
The Cure played several new songs from this album during their recent world tour, which included a sold out show at Wembley Arena in March.
The album was preceded by 4 singles, all released on the thirteenth of the month from May-August: "The Only One (Mix 13)", "Freakshow (Mix 13)", "Sleep When I'm Dead (Mix 13)" and "The Perfect Boy (Mix 13)".
There followed a remix EP "Hypnagogic States" in September, a very special compilation consisting of remixes of these singles by Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance) and Julien-K, Pete Wentz & Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy), Wolves at the Gate (Jade Puget from AFI), 30 Seconds To Mars and 65 Days Of Static (who supported The Cure on most of their recent 59 date World Tour). All Artist royalties from the EP will benefit The International Red Cross.
4:13 Dream was recorded at Park Gate Studio in East Sussex, produced and mixed by Robert Smith and Keith Uddin and engineered by Keith Uddin and Robert Smith. Mastered by Brian Gardner at Bernie Grundman Mastering. All songs by Smith/Gallup/Cooper/Thompson (Music by The Cure - Words by Robert Smith)
