Phil Everly of the legendary Every Brothers has passed away at the age of 74.
Everly was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Everly's death was announced by his wife Patti Everly who said in a statement, "We are absolutely heartbroken. He fought long and hard."
Phil and Don Everly, The Everly Brothers, were part of the birth of rock and roll. They influenced The Beatles, The Beach Boys and especially Simon & Garfunkel, who included the brothers on their Old Friends tour in 2004 and featured them in the Simon & Garfunkel set.
The Everly Brothers are also an influence on today's stars. The new Billie Joe Armstrong & Norah Jones album 'Foreverly' is a complete cover of a 1958 Every Brothers album 'Songs Our Daddy Taught Us'.
The Everly Brothers are Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. Don and Phil Everly had their first hit in 1957 with 'Bye Bye Love'.
They released their first two albums in 1958. The debut self-titled album reached no. 16 on the Billboard chart.
The hits of the Everly Brothers included 'Wake Up Little Susie', 'All I Have To Do Is Dream', 'Cathy's Clown', 'Walk Right Back', 'Devoted To You', 'Crying In The Rain', 'The Price of Love' and 'When Will I Be Loved'.
Phil is survived by his brother Don Everly, their mother Margaret, wife Patti, sons Jason and Chris and two granddaughters.
