Mark E Smith escaped a near-riot in Edinburgh last Saturday (April 24) when a Fall gig descended into chaos after singer Mark E Smith walked off stage after only six songs.
300 fans at city's Studio 24 were left demanding their money back and bottling the stage after lead singer Smith left the stage. The band continued the performance without him but soon had to pull the gig.
Scotland's Daily Record has quoted one internet chat room as saying the venue only just escaped a full-scale riot.
"If this had been in another city, a riot would have ensued", typed the fan. "Edinburgh is too polite."
