The Flaming Lips are planning to release the first live album of their career.
The band recorded their performance at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl on July 23 for new CD and DVD which will also feature footage to be taken from an upcoming show in the band's native Oklahoma City.
The Hollywood Bowl show featured material lifted in the main from the band's new album 'At War With the Mystics'. For the Oklahoma show, the band told Billboard they plan to perform older, more obscure material.
The group hope to realease the results early next year with bassist Michael Ivins explaining: "We never want to rush stuff out and say, 'Hey, look, it's out for Christmas'".
The Flaming Lips have also let slip what their next wacky stage prop will be.
"Perhaps you've heard about our UFO we're trying to build for the stage?" Ivins added. "It's not quite ready yet. We're going to see if we can do it every show or just do it a few times a year."
He added, "That's how we do a lot of stuff - we'll think of something and then we'll figure out how to do it afterwards."
The band tour the UK again in November, playing:
Brighton Centre (November 4)
Bournemouth BIC (5)
Manchester Apollo (6)
Blackpool Empress Ballroom (8)
Birmingham NIA (9)
Glasgow SECC (10)
London Hammersmith Apollo (13/14)
