The Futureheads made their Los Angeles debut last night packing out the city's Spaceland venue.
The Sunderland four-piece, who are currently supporting Franz Ferdinand stateside, took a break from touring with the Scottish outfit to play their own show at the Silverlake hot spot which previously hosted Jet's first American show.
Senior of Junior Senior and Hot Hot Heat's Steve Bays and Paul Hawley turned up alongside several hundred Angelinos to see the outfit play hits from their debut, including ‘Decent Days And Nights', ‘Carnival Kids' and their traditional covers of Kate Bush's ‘Hounds of Love', and ‘A Picture of Dorian Gray', originally by London new wavers Television Personalities.
Speaking after the show guitarist/vocalist Ross Millard said the gig was a highlight of their trip. "It was one of the best shows we played on the tour," he enthused. "A lot of people have said we were tight and American audiences seem to appreciate [our] musicianship."
The band have been taking time off from the Franz tour to play their own gigs, hitting not just LA but New York too. Hyde said the reactions they've received have been unexpected.
"I think we all considered New York and Los Angeles to be similar shows, people waiting for you to impress them, but both the New York and LA shows have been the complete opposite of what we thought they'd be. They're just like shows back home."
The band say they are enjoying the Franz dates too, which tonight in Los Angeles will see them play to over 2000 people at the Wiltern Theatre.
"We've been doing this tour with Franz, but it's a gift for us to open for them. No one in America knows us."
