The Oscar-winning film is set to be adapted for the stage by the movie's original screenwriter David Seidler and it will be overseen by the theatre director Adrian Noble.
According to The Guardian newspaper, the stage version of the show will play at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford for between three and five weeks next year before it heads to the West End in March.
The movie saw Firth take on the role of King George VI as he developed a relationship with the speech therapist Lionel Logue.
