Earlier this year, New York's The Pains of Being Pure at Heart released 'Belong', their gorgeously yearning, sophomore album, winning plaudits on both sides of the pond even appearing on David Letterman to perform first single, 'Heart In Your Heartbreak.'
New single 'The Body', released July 25th, is a majestic soon-to-be staple of indie discos everywhere. Its instantly infectious hooks and sumptuous, ever-ascending chorus belie its painful study of self-abasement and physical disconnection ('Tell me again what the body's for, 'cuz I can't feel it anymore, I lost mine and I need yours,' Berman sings at one point) and manages to lodge itself in the listener's brain long after its short but (bitter)sweet running time is over.
It also comes accompanied by a beautifully wistful video, contrasting the lives of Kip, Peggy, Alex, Kurt and Christoph with their child counterparts, running amok on a beach, to poignant, aching effect. And just as exciting is the brand new track, 'Tomorrow Dies Today,' leaked by a NSFW-titled TPOBPAH fan tumblr earlier this month; a soaring, heart bursting anthem in waiting, and another scintillating look at a band that "could be the most promising indie pop group around" (Pitchfork) coming into their own.
