Most bands announce their split at a press conference, a sold-out gig, or with a wordy statement that usually contains the phrase "a heavy heart." Not The Rapture - they preferred to let people figure out for themselves that they have decided to call it a day.
In a press release regarding a Red Bull music event, lead singer Luke Jenner was listed as "formerly of The Rapture." The band are still yet to officially comment on the news, but Jonathan Galkin, the manager of their label DFA Records, confirmed the split.
Speaking to Self-Titled Mag, Galkin said: "I kept thinking it might blow over, but that might not be the case. Feel free to go to press with this headline: 'Did The Rapture break up and not tell anyone?"
The band formed in 1998, and achieved mainstream success with their 2003 track 'House Of Jealous Lovers' and subsequent second album Echoes. Since then the band have released two more albums - the most recent of which was In The Grace Of Your Love in 2011.
Jenner briefly left the band back in 2008 following the death of his mother and birth of his son, but he returned after a few months away. Bassist Mattie Safer quit the band permanently in 2009.
