The Used team up with PETA2 to fight fur sales at Wet Seal

Taking time out from their 15-city whirlwind Taste of Chaos tour of the U.S. and Canada (March16-April 2), members of the band The Used have fired off a letter on behalf of PETA to Joel Waller, CEO of the youth-oriented clothing retailer Wet Seal, urging him to "take a stand today against the cruelty of the fur industry" by removing all items containing the fur of rabbits and other animals from the company's stores and catalog.

In their letter to Wet Seal, Bert McCracken, Quinn Allman, and Jeph Howard say, "Young people today realize that fur is horrifically cruel, and they don't want to support a store that supports the mistreatment of animals. You will gain countless compassionate consumers by dumping fur."

Millions of rabbits are killed every year for their fur and their flesh. Animals on fur factory farms spend their entire lives confined to tiny, filthy metal cages. To kill rabbits, fur farmers break the animals' necks or smash their skulls before stringing them up by their legs, cutting their heads off, and skinning them. Wet Seal has become a primary target of Street Teamers at PETA2-PETA's youth-focused division-who are riding high after recently winning a fur-free pledge from Wet Seal rival Forever 21. PETA2 has organized protests at Wet Seal stores across the country, urging shoppers to boycott the chain until it stops selling fur.

The Used joins an ever-growing list of punk, hip-hop, and alternative performers-including other heavy hitters such as New Found Glory, My Chemical Romance, Good Charlotte, and the Beastie Boys-who have teamed up with PETA2 to inspire kids to challenge outdated, cruel attitudes about animals.
