Charity auctions studio session with musicians from The Verve and Gorillaz to raise money for girl's cancer treatment
A childhood cancer charity has launched an eBay auction for a day in a studio with musicians from The Verve and Gorillaz to raise money towards a four-year-old girl's cancer treatment.
The winner of the auction will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend a day recording music with Simon Jones and Peter Salisbury, The Verve's bassist and drummer, as well as Jeff Wooton, a guitarist who has worked with Gorillaz and Beady Eye (Liam Gallagher's post-Oasis project).
All the money raised from the auction will pay for life-saving cancer treatment for four-year-old Emma Hoolin, who suffers from neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer. Emma, who is being helped by the Neuroblastoma Children's Cancer Alliance, has undergone eight months of intensive cancer treatment in the UK but now needs life-saving treatment that is only available in the US and will cost in excess of £210,000.
Simon Jones said "Emma is a lovely little girl. We will do anything we can to help this cause. Good luck Emma!"
The auction, which will end at 9pm on Wednesday 19 October 2011, is for a studio session at Milltown Studios in Derbyshire on Friday 21 October. As well as the musicians from The Verve and Gorillaz, a producer, engineer and multi-instrumentalist will be available, as well as a photographer and video production team to film and edit the day.
The winner of the auction will be able to cover any style of music and will be provided with a CD of the track they made and an edited DVD of their day.
Emma, who lives in Wigan ' where The Verve was formed in 1989 ' was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma in February 2011. Over the last eight months, she has gone through intensive cancer treatment at the Manchester Royal Children's Hospital. Her treatment has included chemotherapy, surgery, stem cell harvest and radiotherapy, as well as treatment for kidney failure, which was caused by the chemotherapy drugs. She now needs immunotherapy treatment with a combination of drugs that is only available in the US.
Jill Hoolin, Emma's mum, said she was grateful to all the musicians and other people who are giving their time for the studio day to raise money for Emma's appeal with the Neuroblastoma Alliance UK.
"I would like to say a massive thank you to Simon Jones, Peter Salisbury and Jeff Wooton and all the other people who are generously giving their time, as well as music manager David Halliwell, who made this all happen," said Jill. "I hope bidding for this auction will be fierce - every pound raised will help pay for the treatment our little girl desperately needs."
The studio day has been arranged by David Halliwell, a former band manager to The Verve, who now works for underground record label StopStart Records.
