Tim Minchin and Alexander Armstrong, two of our most loved stars of stage and screen, are today announced as the first of special guests to pay tribute to Tim Rice at his Life In Song concert at London's Royal Festival Hall on 8th July.
Minchin, best known for his musical comedy, performed the role of Judas in the 2012 touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar, whilst Alexander Armstrong is best known as one half of the comedy duo Armstrong and Miller and as host of the hit BBC quiz show, Pointless. Armstrong is also a classically-trained baritone who also tours with his band.
Minchin and Armstrong will pay homage as they celebrate the music, whilst Michael Grade will be in conversation with Tim Rice to tell the stories behind some of our best loved songs from stage and screen over the last five decades.
From the Disney classics Aladdin and The Lion King, to iconic musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita to name just a few, Oscar and Tony Award winning Tim Rice is without doubt one of the world's greatest songwriters.
His music has touched every one of us during his career, a feat acknowledged by his many accolades. From the Songwriters Hall Of Fame, to the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, to being a Disney Legend recipient, Tim Rice's body of work has stood the test of time, remaining as relevant and vital today as it ever was.
Music will be performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra and conducted by Mike Dixon; the show will also be filmed by the BBC for broadcast later this year.
This will be a truly unique evening where you'll not only hear his fabulous music but also get the chance to step into the life and mind of one of the world's most respected and iconic lyricists.
