UK music acts including Tinie Tempah and Mystery Jets will join a host of international acts performing at New Zealand's Rhythm and Vines festival, one of the most spectacular events in the world to see in the New Year.
As the first sunrise of 2011 breaks, an estimated 20,000 strong crowd will be enjoying New Zealand's first festival of the summer, with acts including N*E*RD, Chromeo, Justice and DJ Carl Cox, performing over four stages in natural amphitheaters set deep into the vineyard at Gisborne's picturesque Waihoka Estate. Tickets for the event, which runs between 29th and 31st December, have been selling at record rate, with fans eager to experience one of the world's most unique festivals.
Festival goers can also enjoy fine wine from the festival's own vineyard, watch breathtaking fireworks displays and catch some of the most stunning views the world has to offer, amongst many other mind-blowing experiences guaranteed to get 2011 off to a brilliant start.
Alongside the great musical line-up, the festival site is rich in culture, with Captain Cook's original landing site at Kaiti Beach, just minutes away. For adventure-seekers, surfing, riding and kayaking are also just a few activities on the festival's doorstep.
Rhythm and Vines festival launched in 2003 when University friends Hamish Pinkham and Tom Gibson decided to organise an event for their friends. Along with the help of Gisborne local Andrew Witters, the inaugural festival launched using the estate's purpose-built amphitheatre. Now in its eighth year the event has earned a reputation for 'keeping it real', not just due its stunning setting but also because the festival offers carbon offset tickets to help plant new trees in a bid to offset a proportion of emissions from any festival experience.
Since it began, Rhythm and Vines has grown into a spectacular three-day event attracting over 20,000 people and this year is set to be the biggest yet
