After some technical difficulties — and more than a few fan freakouts — MTV's Musical March Madness has made it to the Final Four!
Yes, what began with 64 bands battling their way through the bracket has come down to this: four acts — Tokio Hotel, Ed Sheeran, Thirty Seconds To Mars and Walk The Moon — all competing for the same singular goal: the Musical March Madness championship (and the very nice, very big gold trophy that comes along with it). After three weeks and 30 million votes ... the title is perilously close; and a loss now would hurt so bad.
Our first Final Four matchup pits defending MMM champs Tokio Hotel against upstart Ed Sheeran ... and even if there wasn't already a copious amount of pre-match trash talk in play, this one would be epic.
After all, Tokio Hotel entered the tournament promising fans a new album if they won ... and, after an opening-round scare against My Bloody Valentine (hi, 4Chan!), TH has kicked it into high gear, dispensing of Japandroids, the Strokes and Florence and the Machine with ease. Sure, you could bring up the fact that they've yet to be truly tested — of all the Final Four bands, they've unquestionably had the easiest route to this point — but history will show that Tokio is one band that truly rises to the occasion come tournament time. They've been to the top of the mountain once before, and we wouldn't bet against a repeat performance, especially given their fanatical fanbase.
Then again, we wouldn't overlook Ed Sheeran, either. This is his first time in the MMM tournament, but he's played like a total pro, handling tourney-tested bands like Muse, Evanescence and Paramore to make it to the Final Four. The fact that his Sheerios have supported him every step of the way — and the swagger he's displayed throughout — means he'll pose a formidable challenge to Tokio Hotel. But can he do what no band has been able to do since 2011, and actually eliminate them from the tournament? It'll be up to you to decide!
