Jones, 70, said he convinced the British singer to snap up a home in LA's Mulholland Estates where he has a house.
Williams, 36, now has a home there with his new wife Ayda Field.
Speaking to UK newspaper The Sun, Jones said: 'I heard a voice over the fence. It was Robbie checking out the estate. He had heard I lived there so came to me for advice. He came in for a look and loved it.
'They are good neighbours. They invite me round for coffee.'
Jones recently released his new album, Praise & Blame.
