The 71-year-old Welsh singer is almost set to join Jessie J on the talent show, according to The Sun, which sees contestants judged solely on their voice rather than their looks.
'Tom is close to committing. He has almost 50 years' experience in music so he'll be able to give contestants decent advice,' said a source.
'Jessie J will attract younger viewers but Tom's bound to be the housewives' favourite.'
The programme has already proved to be a success in the US, where Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine all mentored the acts.
It is expected to launch in the UK on BBC1 next year.
