Following on from their 60th anniversary celebrations last month featuring The Charlatans, Norman Jay, Terry Hall and Don Letts, Fred Perry continues its Sub-Sonic Live series at The Garage.
Tom Vek headlines the latest instalment performing tracks from his two, highly acclaimed albums, 'We Have Sound' and 'Leisure Seizure'. Vek's self-coined 'beat rock' doesn't slot into or borrow from current or nostalgic musical movements and this multi-instrumentalist's scrappy, chopped-up sounds speak of an artist with a unique and singular vision. His live performances with a full band are an incendiary affair.
Breton released their self-produced debut album 'Other Peoples Problems' earlier this year, a compelling mix of mashed-up pop songs, unsettling hip-hop and heavy electronica This multi-instrumental and visual collective combine elements of math-rock, post-rock, straight-up electro and even tropical and Breton live is an intense, hypnotic experience.
Complementing the line-up are Leamington Spa duo Coves, who are reaching for a higher level of euphoria with their wonderful drowsy psychedelic riffs. With Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens already championing them it's unlikely that they'll be playing such intimate settings for long.
19-year-old shooting star Charli XCX is on a mission to reboot British girl power, but this time with edge. Charli's shows, like her music, are raw but multi-layered, sometimes stark but with a beating human heart, Her knack of teaming up great tracks has already been seen through the mixtapes she's released via Soundcloud, and this DJ performance at Sub-Sonic is set to be a thrilling live set.
Luv Luv Luv will curate the Garage's bar. Headed up by Mairead Nash, one half of the legendary Queens of Noize, who discovered and nurtured Florence and the Machine to international superstardom, the label represents an eclectic roster of imaginative artists and is dedicated to championing music to fall in love and dance to.
Fred Perry is celebrating 60 years as an icon British style and fashion.
