Tony Bennett thinks Amy Winehouse was aware she was in 'trouble'.
Tony and Amy recorded a track called Body and Soul together a few months before the songstress passed away. Speaking about Amy Thursday on American television programme The Daily Show, Tony recalled an impression he got from the singer when they worked together.
'She knew that she was in a lot of trouble,' Tony told host Jon Stewart.
'That she wasn't going to live.'
Amy died in July in her London home. For years the singer fought a highly publicised battle with drug and alcohol abuse. Post mortem toxicology tests found a small amount of alcohol, but no drugs in Amy's system at the time of her death.
Tony has spoken out before about Amy. Tony was addicted to cocaine in the 1970s and deeply identified with Amy's troubles.
Three weeks before the singer passed on Tony spoke to British newspaper The Guardian about his desire for the singer to kick her bad habits.
'At one time, everyone in Vegas was on drugs. But I was able to stop. The few people I knew who couldn't stop have died, so I'm praying for her. She'd help everyone by sobering up and cleaning up her spirituality,' Tony said. 'She'd help the world by showing she could do it.'
