Toots and the Maytals have been forced to cancel the last four dates on their current tour while their lead singer, Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, recovers from being hit with a glass bottle.
Hibbert and the group were performing on May 19 at the Dominion Riverrock Festival in Richmond, VA when 19-year-old William C. Lewis throw a glass vodka bottle at the stage, hitting Toots in the head, causing lacerations. Hibbert was taken to a local hospital, treated and released, but is continuing to suffer aftereffects from the injury. Lewis has been charged with aggravated assault.
Toots returned to Jamaica on Tuesday where he will have further treatment.
The cancelled dates are May 29 in Annapolis, MD, May 30 in Ithaca, NY, May 31 in South Orange, NJ and June 1 in Norfolk, CT.
