Combining percussive-heavy Asian, Afro, and Arabic flavours with Gypsy rhythms, Dancehall, Dub, Acid House, Breakbeat, Drum 'n' Bass and more, Run Devils & Demons celebrates the pioneering career of the unique London based collective; Transglobal Underground. Fusing punk's 'anything goes' ethos with dance music's wilful eclecticism and the technical skills of some of the world's finest musicians, TGU have been a shining light on the global music scene for two decades.
Compiled by the band themselves, alongside Nascente regular Phil Meadley (who interviewed the band for the sleeve-notes), Run Devils and Demons is the first compilation to pull together all the greatest hits, club smashes and live favourites from TGU's entire career in one place. The album includes Rude Buddha; the soundtrack to the Smirnoff 'Not the usual' Russian doll ad campaign of 2004; their debut release - the anthemic Templehead, and recent single Dancehall Operator from their critically acclaimed 2007 album, Moonshout.
These cultural magpies have created a heady global melting-pot of what they have termed tribal house-world fusion-ambient dub. Taking influence from the four corners of the globe they have won over everyone from ravers to the world music cognoscenti alike. From setting the early 90s dance scene alight with their savvy mix of electronic beats, ethnic breaks and global samples, Transglobal went on to release a stream of pioneering albums whilst their incendiary live performances have established them as one of the 'must see' acts of their generation.
Still making music as current and relevant as the day they first started, 2008 was something of a red-letter year for Transglobal Underground. Having ridden a wave of popular resurgence after the release of their critically acclaimed 7th studio album Moonshout in 2007 they were rewarded with not 1 but 2 major BBC Awards (A Radio 3 Award for World Music, and a Radio 2 Folk Award for their contribution to the Imagined Village Project), which also earned a performance on Later…With Jools Holland. Festival appearances across Europe included Wychwood, WOMAD, Beautiful Days and Bestival.
2009 looks set to be another fantastic year for the band and they will be touring this album worldwide with gig/festival dates throughout 2009.
