Trey Songz Snags #1 With Chapter V

It's a good thing Trey Songz is a man of patience. His persistence will pay off next week when he finally hits the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart with his Chapter V album. The disc moved 135,000 copies, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

That was plenty of breathing room to beat last week's #1, rapper 2 Chainz's Based on a T.R.U. Story, which slipped 67 percent to #2 on sales of 48,000. The week's other debuts came from hip-hop matchmaker DJ Khaled, who hit #4 with Kiss the Ring (41,000), one-man band Owl City's Midsummer Station (#7, 30,000) and Christian band Tenth Avenue North, who snuck in at #9 with The Struggle (26,000).

The rest of the top 10: Now 43 (#3, 45,000), Justin Bieber, Believe (#5, 32,000), Maroon 5, Overexposed (#6, 32,000), Rick Ross, God Forgives, I Don't (#8, 28,000) and One Direction, Up All Night (#10, 25,000).

Reunited rockers Dispatch landed at #24 with Around the Sun (14,000), their first new studio album in 12 years from the band with the huge live following, while further down the list recently reformed British peacock metalers the Darkness return to the charts at #43 with Hot Cakes (9,000) and psychedelic pop artistes Yeasayer slid in just behind at #44 with Fragrant World (9,000).

New releases will slow down for the Labor Day holiday, with the only new titles coming from the revived Matchbox Twenty, Melissa Etheridge, long-dormant Cat Power figurehead Chan Marshall and trippy experimentalist Animal Collective.
