Tyler, the Creator reportedly nearly incited a potentially dangerous riot at his SXSW show - hours after 2 were killed and 23 were injured in a fatal car accident outside his show on Thursday (March 13).
As SPIN reports, the Odd Future rapper encouraged a crowd who couldn't get into his headlining slot at the Converse/Thrasher Death Match at the Scoot Inn to break down the barriers surrounding the venue, almost causing a riot.
The show, which took place Thursday afternoon, almost descended into chaos as Tyler led the crowd in a chant of "PUSH! PUSH! PUSH!". "Hundreds" of people rushed through the gates, with SPIN's reporter describing the experience as being like "hit with a wave".
With the venue reportedly being at what looked like triple capacity, Tyler's mic was cut off, much to the anger of the crowd. The sound was turned back on to settle rising tension in the venue; the rapper finished his set and told the crowd to "get home safe." Backstage, Tyler, who's no stranger to whipping his crowds into a frenzy, reportedly refused to comment on the incident.
The incident occured hours after the biggest tragedy to occur at SXSW in 27 years. A drunk driver drove into a crowd of people after bursting through a barricade, killing 2 and injuring 23.
