The Irish outfit wrapped up the concerts in New Brunswick, Canada, after earning $736.1m.
And the band's 360 tour was seen by 7.1m fans at 110 shows in 30 countries, after kicking off in Barcelona in 2009.
The previous touring record was held by the Rolling Stones, who made a tour gross of $558m earlier this year.
'The tour was a brilliant success on every level and everyone involved should be very proud,' tour producer Arthur Fogel told the New York Daily News. 'U2 once again have set the standard for achievement - perhaps for all time.'
