Usher 'Caught Up' in lawsuit

Usher is reportedly being sued for allegedly stealing his 2004 song Caught Up.

Zacharia Edwards, Mitch Moses and Vince McClean claim they co-wrote the track, about a man in love, and played it for an executive at Usher's label, Arista Records, in 2002, according to TMZ.

The men assert the unidentified executive then played the song for L.A. Reid, who signed Usher to his record label LaFace, a joint venture with Arista, when Usher was a teen.

The singer recorded Caught Up two years later for his hit album Confessions, which sold over one million copies in its first week.

Ryan Toby, Andre Harris, Vidal Davis and Jason Boyd are credited with writing the Usher track. Harris and Davis are additionally credited with producing it.

The plaintiffs claim they never heard from Arista after playing the song and were stunned when they heard it on the radio.

They are seeking unspecified damages.

Spokespersons for Arista and Usher have yet to issue comment.

Usher is currently working on the follow-up to his last record, 2012's Looking 4 Myself.

The star is reportedly planning to release collaborations with Jermaine Dupri and singer/songwriter Eric Bellinger, among other artists.

Eric told Rap-Up earlier this year fans can expect a sound reminiscent of Confessions, revealing the new album will be "more R&B, more urban".

A release date has yet to be announced.
