Usher wants to be a good role model for his baby son.
The 'Love in This Club' singer - who has a nine-month-old boy Usher Raymond V with wife Tameka - says he is taking the responsibilities of fatherhood very seriously.
He said: "Now I represent what he is to become. He's going to admire me, he's going to look up to me. He's going to say, 'I want to be' - or he should say - 'I want to be like my father. I want to be a man of valour. I want to possess what my father has as a man.' "
Usher admits his relationship with his own father, who was also called Usher and died earlier this year, was troubled but says he holds no grudges as it taught him how to be a good parent.
He added to Essence magazine: "I don't judge my father because I forgave him for anything he'd ever done to hurt me unintentionally. "I've learnt you should never abandon that responsibility, which is to be there, reading with your child, being supportive of your child's growth."
Usher was recently forced to deny rumours he had split from Tameka and insisted he loved his wife and family to "death".
