On the day of Whitney Houston's would-be 49th birthday, Billboard reported that a new album of her greatest hits will be released this fall via RCA Records.
Details regarding the project have not been announced, but sources tell Billboard that the release will span the late icon's entire career and include original versions of Houston's chart smashes. This will mark the singer's second U.S.-released greatest-hits compilation. Back in 2000, Whitney: The Greatest Hits hit shelves and included many of her signature ballads like "The Greatest Love of All" and "I Will Always Love You." However, some of the late singer's upbeat tunes weren't kept in original form and instead included as remixes, like Junior Vasquez's reworking of "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)."
Based on recent Nielsen SoundScan reports, Whitney: The Greatest Hits has sold 836,000 units this year, making it the fourth biggest-selling album of 2012. It has sold 2.6 million copies to date.
On Thursday, Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, commemorated her mother's life by inking her wrists with dedication tattoos. Taking to Instagram to show off the body art (the letters W and H with surrounding doves), the 19-year-old wrote, "Tat tat tatted YURP.. ;) now your truly ALWAYS with us mommy (: we love you."
Not only do fans have a new CD to look forward to, but also Houston's final film, "Sparkle," which hits theaters next Friday. Back in June, co-star Jordin Sparks spoke to BET about the video for the movie's theme song "Celebration."
"When we did the song, we planned on it being Whitney and me. But she's not here, so we wanted to make it a tribute to her. So it's fun, upbeat and exciting — there are clips from the movie and the main cast is in the video too," she said. "We're all just having a good time [and the premise is] they all come over to my house singing along to Whitney's music. And we're missing her and celebrating her as well. It's actually pretty simple, but when you watch it and hear her voice along with it, it makes it so much more."
