Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks are set to star in a remake of Sparkle.
Whitney hasn't appeared on the big screen since 1996 drama The Preacher's Wife, but plans to make a return for the music drama.
Jordin will make her acting debut playing the title role in the movie, which focuses on the three Williams sisters. The trio begin singing in a Harlem choir before finding fame as a girl group in the late 50s. The original film, which was released in 1976, was loosely based on the story of the Supremes.
Whitney is believed to be in negotiations to play Sparkle's resentful mother, who refuses to encourage her talented daughter to pursue her dreams.
Mike Epps is set to play Satin ' a stand-up comedian who marries one of the sisters and gets her hooked on drugs.
Salim Akil will direct the project while his wife Mara Brock Akil is writing the script.
Whitney will act as executive producer on the film.
It is not yet known when shooting will begin.
