The Jealousy singer was widely expected to join Jessie J and Will.i.am as a coach on BBC's new singing competition.
But today it has been announced that Tom Jones and The Script singer Danny O'Donoghue will judge alongside the other two.
Following his fans' disappointed reaction, Will tweeted that he lost the role due to the decision to hire someone 'more rock' than himself.
The 32-year-old wrote: 'The voice came, the voice went. They wanted to go more rock... Should have dusted off my Leather jacket! Hey ho.
'Hang on... Just got jimmy page on the Line. I'm commiserating him.
'I'm holding a seance with Hendrix. Hang on..... I can turn this around people. I can turn this around!!!!'
